Notes
1. Alice, Mary, and Harvey
"Basey" are found in the 1880 Chicago census. Charles is not with them,
but Alice is listed as "married" (not widowed). Alice is listed as born
in Wisconsin and her parents in Ireland. I knew Mary Ellen was born
there because of her "delayed" birth certificate (not the document
above), and the Basey
family was the only
record in the 1880 census for a "Harvey B*" in Chicago. The document
above shows that Alice "Basey" had the maiden name of Gormley.
2. April 29 is the birth date
Mary Ellen Boesen Seehawer used throughout her life.
3. In 1941 Mary Ellen obtained a "delayed" birth certificate saying she
was born in 1881 (impossible since she was a year old in the 1880
census).
4. When Alice applied for Edward O'Deal's pension in 1928, she declared
that Charles Boesen died in Racine, Wis., in October 1878. However, Charles "Basey" is listed here (in 1879)
as a carpenter, not deceased.
5. Charles Boesen is listed as being from Germany when he got married,
from Denmark when Harvey was baptized, born here in this document, from
Canada in the 1880 census (as Harvey and Mary's father), from Scotland
in the 1910 census (according to Mary Ellen and Harvey), and born at
sea, then changed to born in the U.S. in the 1920 census (according to
Harvey).
